World Aids Day

As a grown healthy and thriving and oh so blessed man who has been living with HIV for over 30 years, indulge me in asking those of you with the virus to live your life anyway that will make you happy, anyway that will eliminate stress or anxiety or judgment Have no fear in turning back those who feel they know what’s best for you when your gut tells you otherwise, show the door to anyone who has the audacity to moralize your behavior or your choices. Look on the mirror and see someone special who deserves to be treated that way. No less

What those without HIV often forget is that there is a world of difference between making a mistake and doing something wrong You have done NOTHING wrong unless you are not giving yourself a break or working to create your best life. Fear nothing. We will all die of something and who knows when. So why fixate on one obstacle especially when it is much more fruitful to treat it as a challenge Your goal is not to triumph over the disease. That’s for scientists Your goal is to wake up everyday and live a full life.

As for those who do not have HIV: Get smarter. learn more. Ask questions, pontificate less. Do not avoid or forget what seems easy to ignore. Swallow whatever it takes to enjoy your life and be disease free but know you are fucking lucky and act accordingly. And know that the guy or girl you may meet who lives with HIV has as much reason to question you as you do him or her. We can all be risks to one another. Or we can be blessings. It’s your call.

Enjoy the day.
